Building community
The families who come to Sunday Friends tell us they feel isolated: economically, socially, linguistically and culturally. Sunday Friends breaks down the barriers among disparate communities, providing a safe, supportive environment where people with diverse backgrounds come together as equals in a larger community.
We know that families consider Sunday Friends to be their community because:
-
They come early to help set up and stay late to help clean up.
-
They bring food – nutritious and economical dishes – that they have prepared at home to share with everyone.
-
85% rarely miss a program.
-
Spanish-speakers build the confidence to interact in English.
-
Every program day creates positive energy and builds confidence that carries on through the week.
Families tell us: "I feel very good in Sunday Friends program. It's like everybody is a big family."
Our Program Evaluation demonstrates how successful Sunday Friends is with Building Community.
