Management team

JAMES McCASKILL. Executive Director, brings broad experience in the areas of children’s education, health, homelessness, and low-income community development through his board governance in seven nonprofit organizations, along with hands-on volunteering. Through leadership positions in faith-based organizations for over 16 years, he created and implemented strategic plans and developed and delivered outreach programs. He cultivated community partnerships with private, public, and international sectors to address pressing issues of health, housing, youth education, adult education, immigration, and the generational perpetuation of unemployment. As the leader of growing congregations, he enhanced organizational operations by training and mentoring staff, empowering leadership, developing personnel and financial policies, streamlining budgeting, and increasing volunteer participation and financial donations. Mr. McCaskill is also a professional speaker with vast experience with radio, newspaper interviews, television documentaries, universities, and schools.

DIANA NGUYEN. Program Manager, is well equipped for nonprofit service in Silicon Valley with a B.A. in Sociology, another B.A. in Spanish, and a certificate in nonprofit leadership.  She has led college-level programs supporting the academic success of underserved students in STEM.  Along with excellent organizational skills, a passionate heart for service, and a long history with Sunday Friends starting as a volunteer while a student, Diana is tri-lingual in English, Spanish and Vietnamese—the three primary languages of our clients and surrounding community. Diana oversees the planning and execution of the Sunday programs.

SHILPA HAMPOLE. Activities Manager, applies the precision of a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in management from the University of California, the experience of teaching children and adults in a studio arts program, and a love for our families that began when she was a high school volunteer at Sunday Friends.  Now currently working towards an M.A. in Research and Experimental psychology, Shilpa designs and oversees our art, STEM and nutrition activities.

RUBBY BARAJAS. Program Assistant, during COVID-19 is our main lead with on-boarding and guiding our families through our new Online Learning Platform, but she does a whole lot more coordinating support for our families. With a degree in early childhood development and workings towards a master's in education, she is passionate about helping families realize their full potential.
